A little Bat-history...

Here is a great article from "Comic Book Resources" that really maps out where the Dark knight has come from, and where his future lies.
You can read it the whole article here.

"The birth of the Batman and his meteoric rise to success in the 1940s helped put DC Comics at the top of the American comics industry. The Caped Crusader appeared in regularly published titles and had been the subject of two successful movie serials. And while editorial changes made to soften the darker aspects of the stories, the Dark Knight remained the star of the superhero genre."

Dark Knight sound track back in the running!

(from www.superherohype.com)

Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard are back in contention for an Oscar nomination, reports Variety.

The Music Branch Executive Committee of the Academy has reversed its Nov. 10 decision declaring their score for The Dark Knight ineligible for the 2008 Academy Awards.

The score was disqualified due to five names being listed as composers on the music cue sheet.

After reviewing information submitted by the affected parties, the committee concluded that two, Zimmer and Howard, were responsible for the score's authorship.

Ledger Wins Australian Film Institute's Best Actor

The late Heath Ledger was awarded one of his country's most prestigious film awards on Saturday for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight, reports Reuters.

Ledger, 28, who died of an accidental overdose of painkillers and other medicines in his New York apartment 11 months ago, was posthumously awarded the AFI (Australian Film Institute) international award for best actor.

Guests at a packed awards ceremony in Melbourne's Princess Theater rose to their feet clapping, but with some in tears, to pay tribute to the actor who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in 2005's Brokeback Mountain.

It's official!!!

(taken from www.superherohype.com)

Warner Bros. will re-release The Dark Knight on January 23 in a nationwide launch, guaranteeing that it will become the fourth film to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office, reports Variety.

The film has earned $530.3 million domestically and $465.9 million internationally, leaving it less than $4 million short of the billion-dollar milestone. Only Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest have topped that mark.

The Dark Knight also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only Titanic.

The re-release will come six weeks after the DVD and Blu-ray Disc launch of The Dark Knight, set for Tuesday.

Dan Fellman, president of Warner's domestic distribution, made the announcement Thursday. "We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the bigscreen as it was meant to be seen," he added.

George Miller Officially Off Justice League

Dark Horizons reports that filmmaker George Miller appeared on Sydney-based morning talk show "Sunrise" on Monday and confirmed he's no longer involved with the Justice League movie in any capacity.

Miller indicated that if the project does get going again, he expects that it'll be recast as "the studios seem to want bigger stars in their superhero movies now."

Miller added that he'd like to work with Mel Gibson again and while the actor doesn't want to do the "Mad Max" script he wrote, he hasn't given up on that possibility just yet.
